Backward Classes Welfare Department.

The Government of Karnataka in 1977 created a separate "Backward Classes and Minority Department" for the welfare of the backward classes, minorities in the state and provided for the provision of educational reservation under Article 15 (4) of the Constitution of India and 16 (4). In 1999-2000 the Minority Welfare Department had a separate Directorate separate from the Backward Classes Welfare Department.  The Department of Welfare of the Backward Classes has a separate headquarters and it has a continuous program to provide social justice, educational incentives and financial assistance to the backward classes and bring them to the main channel of society. Implementing the State Zone and District Zone Programs by the Backward Classes Welfare Department, under the supervision of District Executives and District Panchayat Chief Executives, District Backward Classes Welfare Officers and Taluk Backward Classes Welfare
